DETERMINANTS DES ACCOUCHEMENTS A DOMICILE DANS LA ZONE DE SANTE RURALE DE NYUNZU, PROVINCE DU TANGANYIKA, ENDETERMINANTS OF HOMEBIRTH DELIVERIES IN THE RURAL HEALTH ZONE OF NYUNZU IN TANGANYIKA PROVINCE, DR OF THE CONGO

Introduction. Homebirth delivery carries an image of danger and risk. Its complications are widely identified as the leading causes of maternal and neonatal deaths in most developing countries. The objective of this study was to identify the determinants of home birth deliveries among women in Nyunzu health zone from July 2021 to June 2022
Material and methods. An analytical cross-sectional study conducted from 1st to 15 July 2022 among a sample obtained by cluster random sampling of 377 women who gave birth in the period from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022 in Nyunzu health zone. Data collected using a questionnaire on Kobo collect during a face-to-face interview were analyzed by Chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression using SPSS 28.0.
Results.The proportion of homebirth deliveries was 39%. The independent determinants associated with homebirth were low perceived risk of home birth (OR 330.86 [23.19 - 4719.70]), unaffordable cost of care (OR 289.43 [17.51 - 4783.30]), poor quality of care (OR 51.51 [7.88 - 336.97]), and previous home birth (OR 14.99 [1.68 - 133.59]).
Conclusion. Homebirth deliveries are still very common in Nyunzu health zone because of the above factors that deserve special attention.
